DERMATOLOGY (MOHS)
Mohs' surgery, also called Moh’s micrographic surgery, is a microscopically controlled excision of cutaneous tumors either after fixation in vivo or after freezing the tissue. It is the precise surgical removal technique of skin cancer and other indicated malignancies. This surgery is followed by microscopic examination of graphically-orientated, oblique tangential histological sections of the entire surgical margin of excised tissue, to ensure the complete removal of the malignant tissue.
Mohs' surgery is used in the removal of skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma of the skin, melanoma, Bowen's disease, extramammary Paget's disease, leiomyosarcoma, laryngeal cancer, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, microcystic adnexal carcinoma, mucoepidermoid carcinoma, and Merkel cell carcinoma.
